When you think of Studio Ghibli, you tend to think of Miyazaki, but many of my favorite movies from Japan's most famous animation studio are directed by Isao Takahata. The breathless adventure is a joy to watch. Airships, pirates, ancient technology and political intrigue surround a nicely drawn relationship between a princess and an orphan boy, each with secret ties to a hidden floating city. But it's a wonderful entry in the filmmaker's middle catalogue.
